Lancome Hypnose Drama Waterproof Mascara Review

Sorry for the absence! Life seems to get busy in different bursts at a time, but I'm going to try and get more posts in per month! Here goes nothing! (<--why do people say that? Shouldn't it be, here goes everything?)

Lancome Hypnose Drama Waterproof Mascara

(I ordered mine from Macy's online, along with a foundation, and got a free gift!)

Ok, so where did I hear about this mascara? Well, a very long time ago, I got a sample of Lancome's  Hypnose Star mascara, and I absolutely loved it, but I forgot about it until I heard Tamanna Roashan aka DressYourFace, mention the Hypnose Drama mascara and how much she loves it. I am signed up for her online makeup classes (and you should be, too! Get more information and sign up here!), and in every single class, she always says that this is the only mascara she uses, but only in the waterproof version, especially for brides.

Maybe it's been drilled in my head, but I could not get this mascara out of my head, so I finally bit the bullet and bought one! My first thoughts: this brush looks like a caterpillar with it's "S" shape and is a bit intimidating!

Size: It's not as large as some of the fuller mascara wands that I have, but not as thin as some of the "regular" sized wands. As for the length of the wand, I do find that I have better control over the shorter handled wands, but the top fit nicely in my hand. (*Tip for those of you who have smaller lashes like me- lift your lid up and then brush the mascara on. It makes it easier for wands that have varied sized bristles)

Formula: I loved that the formula wasn't overly dry like the drugstore mascaras I've bought in the past, but it wasn't as moist as a softer mascara, like the Urban Decay Perversion mascara, so it helps to hold the curl in lashes better.

As for the waterproof part, oh my WORD! This is like the queen of waterproof mascara! I am telling you, this mascara is hard to get off! You can rub your eyes, cry, even take a makeup wipe to it, and it will NOT come off! I barely got it off with my makeup remover, which claims to remove waterproof mascara. This is perfect for brides or ladies/gents who live in humid areas, as well.

For me, personally, I may want to use the Hypnose Star mascara (although it's not waterproof!) on my own lashes, because they are so short, but I absolutely LOVE this for my brides! If you are looking for an amazing waterproof mascara that will hold your lash, you need to get one of these!

Sugarpill Heavenly Creatures Nail Lacquer Collection Review

Hello darlings!

I hope everyone has recovered from their IMATS trip and are enjoying the products they were able to snag! The very first stop that I made was to Sugarpill Cosmetics, as I heard their items were selling out quickly. I never tried anything from this company, but I have been following them on Instagram for quite some time and I just adore Amy Doan aka Shrinkle, the founder of Sugarpill, so I knew IMATS would be the perfect place to try some of their products!

 I'm still making my way through all of the products I bought, but so far, I have tried their Heavenly Creatures Nail Lacquer Collection and I LOVE it! I purchased only two of their nail polishes at the show, Angel Cake and Cloud Castle, and I'm already regretting not getting more!

I must admit, I was a bit skeptical of how sheer or opaque they would be, but I thought I would take a chance and purchase them anyways. I also loved the fact that they are 100% Vegan, Cruelty-Free (as all Sugarpill products are), and that they are 5-Free, meaning that they do not contain the following 5 toxins: Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, and Camphor. Now I know, some of you might be thinking that these nail polishes couldn't possibly be that strong without some of the toxins that are in most other nail polishes, but boy, would you be wrong!

 As you can see from the pictures, not only is the color decently opaque, but also the sparkles applied easily! I didn't have to struggle to get the glitter or sparkles on, I just painted two coats on my lunch break at work. I noticed that my nails felt more sturdy with the lacquer on, and dried fairly quickly. I like to do what I call the "toilet paper test" just to see how quickly they do dry. Well, I would say I let them completely dry without touching anything for about 40 minutes and then went to use the loo before heading back to work. This lacquer passed with flying colors! None of the toilet paper was stuck to the polish! In fact, the lacquer is so strong, that it took about a week and a half for it to even start chipping.

  Once I saw enough chipping, I decided to remove the polish so I could use a new one, but found it very difficult! I use a none acetone nail polish remover, so there aren't as many harsh and harmful chemicals on my nails, but I really struggled with getting these sparkles off. The actual lacquer came off well enough and even most of the glitter, but for the sparkles, I had to soak a cotton pad with nail polish remover and hold it on top of my nail and then just pick off the remaining sparkles. Even still, I love these polishes and their high quality! I believe I paid about $12-13 for them at IMATS, but they are not yet released on their website yet. I will update when I see them on their page, but if you are considering purchasing one when they are released, just do it! You'll love them!

My first experience at IMATS NY 2015!

Hello hello!

Here in Massachusetts, it looks like spring is finally here and all the snow has melted! This past weekend in New York was also not only beautiful, but AMAZING because it was my first time going to IMATS (International Make-Up Artist Trade Show)! Friends, I have been dreaming about this weekend for many months and let me tell you, I was not disappointed!

 So, this was my first time ever going to an IMATS show, so I tried to do a lot of research ahead of time and via social media so I had an idea of what I would need to do/bring. Later on, I'll touch up on some of those tips (which were life-saving!), as well as some others I have learned.

Initially, I wanted to buy my general admission ticket for Saturday because I had heard that most things would be sold out by Sunday, but alas, Saturday tickets sold out very quickly, so I was forced to buy a Sunday ticket for myself and (later on) my husband, Brendan. Since none of my friends could join me, he was sweet enough to make the trek with me and help calm my anxious nerves!

(I know he doesn't seem happy, but he was being a good driver and focusing on the road while I tried to capture a selfie!)

Our drive down on Saturday was so sunny and beautiful, and with minimal traffic, we made it from Massachusetts to New York City in about 4.5-5 hours! Then we were ready to get some grub and relax with some friends and family since we had the day free.

We had a great time have a few beers, playing a hilarious game of Scattegories, and catching up, but I made sure we got to bed because the next morning meant IMATS!

The next morning, we had a quick breakfast (this is essential!) packed our bags in our car, and headed over to Pier 92/94, where IMATS NY was being held. For Sunday, doors opened at 10 am, but unfortunately, we had some issues with the garage we parked at (which we thankfully got resolved), so we didn't head out until about 9:30 AM! I was so anxious, but with great hope, I left a message on the IMATS NYC 2015 Facebook group (unofficial IMATS enthusiast group) that I am an admin of asking if anyone else was already in luck! Much relieved, I found out that one of the awesome girls, Asa, was already in line and she let us hop in with her! Honestly, if she had said no, we would have like waited an hour or two outside! Major props and thanks to sweet Asa! <3

Guys and gals, I will say for sure, as a blogger, I'm ashamed that I didn't take more pictures, but my goodness, did the adrenaline kick in! After hearing from the gals in the group about how many things had sold out- I was running to the vendors and my first stop was Sugarpill!

From Sugarpill, I went straight to OCC, and just kept going from then on! I did get to pause a few times to take a couple
pictures, but in general, I was booking it! My husband also wanted to get on the road sooner so we could beat the traffic! (Can you blame him?!)

Unfortunately, those are the only pictures I stopped to take, so I'll talk about my tips for next year and then show you my haul!

1.) Buy your ticket as soon as they go on sale, if you know you want to attend. The sooner you buy them, the more likely you will be able to resell them if you cannot attend. This year, if you wanted to resell your ticket, you had to have bought your ticket before January 27. You can only change the name on your ticket once, so make sure that person is aware of that as well!

2.) Start saving up! I knew the discounts would be amazing, but I had no idea how good they would be! Discounts ranged from 20-70% off, and sometimes even more if you have a pro card!

3.)  Wear flats. Ladies, and some gents, I cannot express how this one tip saved my life. I was trying to find cute flats to wear ahead of time, but because of time and my unwillingness to spend my saved money on shoes, I ended up wearing a pair of Sperry boat shoes. Believe me when I say that I never had a leg cramp and I was quickly moving throughout the convention center. Some people just don't understand that shopping at IMATS is a sport!

4.) Plan a budget/ what kind of trip will this be. It can be very overwhelming to see the vendors with all their amazing products and discounts, but don't go too crazy! Are you refilling your kit? Getting limited edition items? Gifts, personal items? Think about what you really want and go there first. I saw a HUGE line for NYX Cosmetics, which in my opinion, made little sense. They already have such excellent prices that I knew I wanted to go after the products that were usually much more expensive. I would have liked to go to NYX, but I saw the line and was like "Nope!"

4.) Pick your battles wisely. Going along with what I said about the NYX line, there were also crazy lines for Sigma, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Dose of Colors, Morphe, and Lady Moss. Although I desperately wanted to try and get stuff from all of these vendors, I knew that I came for specific products first, and that my husband wouldn't last hours in line for one lipstick (haha, he'll never understand!). Also, if you are going Saturday or Sunday, go on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to see what people who went on the Friday Pro Night are saying. I was shocked to hear that ABH actually RAISED some of their prices for the show! Because of a number of people telling me this, I decided I would skip her line and just order online at a later date.

5.) Bring cash money! Initially, I had planned on just bringing a portion of what I saved in cash, but ended up bringing SO much more. If you are using cash, your transactions are MUCH quicker. No need to wait for your receipt to print or, at some booths, pay tax! I found that this let me get around to different booths much quicker!

6.) Bring baby wipes. You KNOW you are going to get your swatch on (unless you swatched ahead of time at Sephora or somewhere else). Although many booths had tissues to wipe off swatches, no one offered makeup remover, which I was surprised at! I did get some of my swatches off when the ladies at Beautylish demonstrated the Bioderma H2O on me, but other than that, it was up to the wipes I brought with me!

7.) Swatch ahead of time. Going with the baby wipes commentary, swatching ahead of time will save you EVEN more time. I didn't even consider this until Asa was telling me in line that she had gone to Sephora and found all the colors she wanted. GENIUS! Am I right?? This way, you can quickly put in your order, get in and move on to the next booth!

8.) Bring snacks and water. I had initially planned on staying much longer than I ended up staying, and I had heard that the food and drinks at the cafe were expensive, so I brought a water bottle with me. I forgot to bring snacks and because I had breakfast so early, I was STARVING, but there was no way I was going to stop for food! I saw a bunch of gals who had brought snacks sitting near the entrance or the walls just eating their lunch in peace. Definitely a smart idea if you plan on being at the convention for a while.

9.) Bring a big bag, tote, or one with wheels. Some of the smartest ladies I saw brought their ZUCA train cases empty and were filling them as they shopped! I brought a big Old Navy leopard print bag I got years ago, but it saved me lugging around the HUGE shopping bags they give you. Seriously, you could buy one little lipstick and they will give you a monster bag for it.

10.) Have fun and go see some of the classes! Although I had a BLAST at IMATS, I was sad that I didn't have time to sit down and enjoy the classes going on, let alone take pictures! If I had stayed longer, I would have also had the chance to meet some amazing legends, YouTube gurus, and makeup artists like Brian Champagne, Tatiana Ward, Patrick Starr, Eve Pearl, and so many more! Next year, I will be going with one of my gal pals and I'm staying for the WHOLE day! :P

NARS Virtual Domination Cheek Palette

I hope everyone has been enjoying their long President's Day weekend! Here in Massachusetts, the snow is burying us! We have gotten over 90 inches of snow! There is literally no where else for them to put the snow! Since we are snowed in, I thought it would be the perfect time to get another review in! Let's jump right into it!

Summary:

When I first saw this palette, I was lusting after it for a while, so when I received a gift card for Amazon during Christmas last year, I searched until I found one and ordered it immediately! I will admit, it is a bit smaller than I initially thought it would be, but it does make it convenient for travel for light packing. Now, this palette was released in 2014 as a holiday palette, but is still available because of the varying mixed reviews of the palette.

(The palette contains {top row, bottom row, then bronzer} Miss Liberty, Deep Throat, Sex Fantasy, Final Cut, Laguna Bronzer)

In the pan, the colors look absolutely gorgeous! With three blushers, one highlighting blusher, and a bronzer, this palette makes for a great travel palette, but I believe it is better suited for fair to light-medium skin tones. The colors are as follows, from top row to bottom row and then the bronzer: Miss Liberty (a beautiful peachy-beige color with silver shimmer), Deep Throat (peach with shimmer), Sex Fantasy (matte pale lavendar pink), Final Cut (matte peach coral), and Laguna (medium brown with gold shimmer).

I, like many others, have found that this palette, for some reason, is not as pigmented as a single pan of blush from NARS, except for Final Cut and Deep Throat, which actually have really nice saturation and did apply easily. To even get these swatches for the other ones though, I had to go over a few times, especially the Laguna bronzer, which I was surprised about because I had heard such rave reviews about it. The Sex Fantasy was the color I was most disappointed in. Although it has a beautiful soft lavender color to it, the consistency was a bit more chalky and couldn't be worn alone as a blusher. I normally do mix more than one blush to get a more natural look, but this was one that MUST be mixed with another blush. Once you pick up enough of the product though, the colors are quite stunning. I think that Laguna would also be wonderful for those who are very fair skinned (like my pale self), who need to add a little bit of color to their skin without getting too muddy or too warm. 

Conversely, with the Miss Liberty highlighting blusher, I find this highlight to be a little too obvious, because of the silver shimmer and would only reserve it for holiday looks or used as an eyeshadow. It all comes down to personal preference, but generally, I prefer to use a highlighter that adds a sheen and healthy glow, rather than more of a glittery shimmer. What do you guys think? I think for the price and overall quality, as well as the holiday packaging, this palette was a good investment, although I can understand why some people might be hesitant to try it out, but I'm happy with my investment.
